When does the sun reach Lago di Braies?

In Lago di Braies direct sun arrives 2 h 59 min after the official sunrise in midwinter and 4 h after it in midsummer, because the sun must first climb above the mountains. On 21 December 2027 the spot has sun 10:52–11:57 (1 h 5 min); on 21 June 2027 09:18–17:49 (8 h 32 min).

How much sunlight do the mountains take from Lago di Braies?

The terrain takes 7 h 28 min of the 8 h 33 min between sunrise and sunset on 21 December and 7 h 20 min on 21 June. Over 2027 that is 2391 hours of direct sun, 6 h 33 min a day on average.

In the morning the sun reaches the spot 3 h 38 min after sunrise at the March equinox and 3 h 38 min after it in September; in the evening it leaves 1 h 57 min and 1 h 56 min before sunset.

The lake lies at about 1,490 m under the north walls of the Seekofel (Croda del Becco), which rise steeply on its south side: in winter the low sun stays behind them for most of the day. In summer the sun climbs high enough to reach the water from mid-morning to the evening.

Where does the sun appear over the ridge in Lago di Braies?

On 21 December the first sun reaches Lago di Braies from 161° (SSE), already 17.7° above the horizon; on 21 June it comes from 95° (E) at 37.9°. The flat-horizon sunrise is at 124° (SE) and 54° (NE).

The highest point of the skyline is 39.3° above the horizon. In the evening the last sun leaves from 177° (S) in December and 272° (W) in June.

Is there golden-hour light in Lago di Braies?

No: in 2027 the sun never reaches the spot while it is low and warm (below 6°), on any day. Golden hour still happens in the sky above, but on the spot the light is always high-sun daylight.

Golden hour by the sky (true solar altitude −4° to +6°) on 21 December is 07:31–08:45 and 15:35–16:48; on 21 June 04:54–06:05 and 20:22–21:33. That is when the light is warm on open ground and on high peaks. Whether it reaches you depends on the skyline: if the terrain in the sun's direction is higher than 6°, no low sun can reach the spot. For photographers that is the point of a Braies sunrise: the lit peaks and sky reflected in calm water that is still in shade. For travelers: come at sunrise for the light and the quiet, and stay until the sun reaches the water if you want the turquoise colour. How accurate are these times?

An estimated ±5 minutes: the skyline comes from 40 m global terrain, which reads summits up to about 100 m low and misses trees and buildings. Refraction near the horizon can add ±2–4 minutes when the sun is very low.

Method: the sun's position is computed every 30 seconds with the NOAA/Meeus equations (about 0.01°) and Saemundsson refraction.
