WHERE WE WANT TO GO
The Sunreach roadmap.
Better light plans, more local knowledge, and more places to explore. These upgrades are planned; they are not available features or promised release dates.
Photo event dates and forecasts
Each photo event with this year’s exact days worked out by the app for the spot, and a warning when the forecast is going to spoil it.
Community photos
Photographs shared by people who have been to a place, with the light and viewpoint they had.
Aurora sightings and webcams
Real aurora reports and all-sky cameras near the oval on the aurora globe, and a personal aurora log with a card to share.
Trees and buildings in the skyline
Counting trees and buildings next to your spot again, once the surface data is reliable enough.
More accurate data, country by country
Finer terrain in more countries, with the source shown for each spot.
What the current build is for
Choose a place and date, read when the sun is on your spot over real terrain, explore the sun and shadows in 3D (a 3D city view with buildings over towns), use the AR sun path where you stand, and find the days the sun or moon lines up with a street, notch or tower. Global terrain is the foundation; 2 m lidar covers many countries.
The current build also has peak light after sunset and a valley-fog outlook from Apple Weather, an aurora forecast (the live oval, the Kp your spot needs over its skyline, where to drive tonight, aurora alerts), 1,036 hand-picked photo spots, 98 photo events with an explanation of each, the moon and Milky Way in the plan, 3D and AR, a drone camera with hyperlapse, offline region downloads, light alerts, widgets, a Live Activity and an Apple Watch app. AR alignment and the fog outlook still need checking on real mornings.
