Peak light and fog outlook
When the sun leaves your spot, the high faces opposite it often stay lit, then turn pink. Peak light tells you which summits, until when and whether the clouds will let it happen. The fog outlook says if a cold morning will leave a sea of cloud below the ridges.

Sunreach is coming soon to iPhone and iPad; screenshots are from the iOS Simulator, 26–27 October 2026.

What it does
Peak light lists up to four peaks or ridges on your skyline opposite the sun, with direction, distance, height and the minutes each one is still lit. A summary says when you go into shade and how long the peaks stay lit after that. A forecast chip reads Go, Maybe or Don’t go with a score out of 100.
Fog gives a chance for the morning (likely, possible or unlikely), a rough fog top, whether your spot is probably inside it or above it, when it usually lifts, and the nearest summits above the fog.
How it works
For peak light the app looks along the skyline opposite the sun for high ground and works out when the sun leaves each face, the same way it does for your spot. It also shows Earth’s shadow and the band of pink sky above it. The score reads the forecast cloud toward the sun (50 to 150 km away) and over the summits.
For fog it reads the shape of the ground around you (valley floor, ridges, how deep the basin is) and the night’s forecast: the gap between temperature and dew point, wind, a clear evening, low cloud, visibility and rain. These are rules of thumb, and the app says so.
How to use it
- Open a spot and scroll the plan to Peak light and Fog, below the weather.
- In Peak light, choose Sunset or Sunrise. Tap a peak to move the clock to its last minutes of light.
- Open Fog for the morning of the picked day. Tap a summit under Above the fog to look at it as a viewpoint.

Tips
- If the peak light score is Go and you are in a valley, stay put after your own sunset: the best colour on the summits comes in the last few minutes.
- For a sea of cloud, pick a viewpoint from the Above the fog list and plan its sunrise.
Good to know
- Both are heuristics that have not yet been checked against many real mornings. Treat them as a nudge, not a forecast.
- They need the Apple Weather forecast and a network.
